Our Story

MEET RONNEE & EMMA

We are two sisters, Ronnee & Emma Richards. We hail from Ghungalu Country in Central Queensland.

Our journey in the Mining Industry spurred the creation of I AIM. Starting out, we felt a lack of support and guidance for Indigenous individuals, and that ignited the idea of I AIM. The industry faces a shortage of Indigenous talent.

When it comes to empowering the Indigenous community, my goal is to provide a head start in the work industry for my mob, regardless of the career paths they choose. It’s about instilling confidence, motivation, and a drive for self-improvement, allowing them to become positive role models within their families.

I AIM is dedicated to enhancing Indigenous representation in the mines. We aim to have more Indigenous trainers and assessors, alongside mentors in the mines, aiding fellow workers in a smooth transition. There’s a need for greater awareness of Indigenous culture among non-Indigenous workers. I believe promoting cultural awareness courses for all coal mine workers is the first step in narrowing this gap.

The genesis of I AIM stemmed from my experiences and career in the mines. When I shared this vision with my partner, Ben, he embraced it wholeheartedly, becoming my pillar of support. With over 14 years’ mining experience, starting as an NTI (New To Industry) himself, he worked his way up over the years. Fast forward to 2024 and Ben is now a production supervisor. His enthusiasm and impact on those involved with I AIM are immeasurable. Then there’s Emma, my older sister, who introduced me to the mines initially. I couldn’t imagine embarking on this journey with anyone else. The three of us form the core foundation of I AIM.

Looking ahead, I envision I AIM as a platform where First Nations individuals feel empowered and assured in their workplaces, believing in their potential for success in any career path, whether it’s mining or other fields. My dream for I AIM extends beyond Queensland – I aspire for it to flourish nationwide. That’s the ultimate goal.

At I AIM, We Aim To Help Build A Strong Future For Our People So They Can Build A Brighter Future For Their Families.
